This evening’s message from Kevin: Vessels forged in the fire
A cup is a vessel. You are a vessel, a temple of the Holy Spirit. We contain the Holy Spirit within us, we are the Lord’s instrument. We are a tool in the hand of the Lord to do His will. Forged in the fire. Romans 9:21 “Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?” Without faith being placed in your heart by God to believe, you never would. It’s by grace that you’ve been saved and when you’re saved the knowledge that you get is Spiritual. The flesh and all the senses that lead us into temptation are in conflict with the Spirit. Satan will use your senses to dull your Spirit.
2 Timothy 2:19-21 Leave the youthful lust behind as Paul says, there has to be a change in you. The Lord will have His way in the whirlwind, the storm and the fire. By our fruit shown in the reaction to the whirlwind, the storm, the fire, the Lord will see where your heart is. Especially when you are right and you are being accused of being wrong and being punished for it. It’s through this that you build true and good character in God’s eyes. How do you handle it, with patience and perseverance? These are the fruits of the Spirit. When the storm comes, do you run to God, or do you turn away and revert back to old negative ways? Pray for your enemy when they are lost. This is what Christ did. The Spirit says stand firm because the Lord is your champion, He will go before you. Jesus was the greatest vessel because He said I’m going to do the will of my Father, no matter what happens to me. It’s only when you are doing the will of God that you are in the Spirit of God. We are supposed to change into the image of God and the more that we are in the image of God, the more that He uses us. Who doesn’t go through struggles each day? It’s how you react that either forms your character and matures you or not – God will test you until you’ve learnt the lesson. The instrument will go into the fire a couple of times before it’s ready to be used.
James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
When you are persecuted, pray for your persecutors. You can only do this when you turn to God and get your strength from Him and get into His Spirit. You can’t do this in your flesh, in your flesh you will want to revert to negative, old, self-defeating behaviours. Remember that Satan is sly. It’s all in the fruit your spirit has given birth to within you. The fruits of the Spirit are: patience, kindness, love, joy, peace, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. How you react to a situation is how you can know where you are at. If you have the Holy Spirit within you, you want to do good. If you are not growing in the fruits of the Spirit, you are in denial.
Do I have faith in God? Do I run to God? Am I standing on the Word of God? Am I trying to avoid facing what I need to? Wait patiently on God and do what is right according to His Word. It is God who shapes you. When you run away to relieve your flesh, you are not running to Him. Run to Him in the whirlwind, storm, fire, He is true. What He says He does.
1 Corinthians 3:9-15 “For we are fellow workers in God’s service you are God’s field, God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid the foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved – even though only as one escaping through the flames.”
The only way you’ll grow the fruits of the Spirit is to stand in the storm and lean on God. If you do anything in real and true love for another, you will receive a reward from God.
