Today’s message from Dereck – Reasons for Seasons
Seasoning adds something, it brings out flavors in food that weren’t there before.
Genesis 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” God institutes seasons for reasons, they’re not created by man, they’re created by God. Man changes to adapt to seasons, seasons don’t change to adapt to man. A season’s there to teach us something and if you don’t learn you just keep going around the same mountain. A seasoned person is someone who has a lot of experience in an area. The natural world’s a mirror of the supernatural. What causes seasons is the earth’s axis tilted towards the sun and it goes through seasons just like we’re tilted towards God, we’re surrendered to God and we go through seasons. The sun giving life to the earth is a natural picture of Jesus giving life to us spiritually. Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.” For everything there’s a season, a time and a purpose. A season’s an appointed time. Time’s a progress of existence, it holds the past, present and future. A purpose is the reason for a thing. A seasoned person knows the purpose of things. You’ve got to find out the reason you exist. The Bible says God created man to have dominion over all the earth, not to have dominion over other people. Everywhere in the world people are neglecting the world. A seasoned person has knowledge, you are here to do God’s will. To do good and heal people who are oppressed by the devil. But everyone’s too busy loving themselves and putting themselves first. The world’s such a mess because we don’t know why we were created. Romans 8:29 “For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” God knew you before you were born, He designed you with a plan and a purpose. So how are you going to know the plan? It’s all inside of you, your purpose is written on your DNA. A person that understands seasons will have faith. Just as the earth tilts towards the sun, you bow down towards God. The part of you that you think nobody knows, people do actually know because of your heart, your mouth speaks. The moment things get tough we want to duck, we don’t want to go through the season but it’s the season that’s going to change us. Seasons add or subtract from your life depending on how you handle them. They can add anger, jealousy, bitterness or contentment, love, peace etc. We’ve got to change our way of looking at things and stop being judgmental of others. If seasons have a negative effect it’s like Galatians 5:19-21 “The acts of the flesh are obvious; sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, fractions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” If a season has a positive effect it like Galatians 5:22-24 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with all its passions and desires.” You’re in a war between your spirit and your flesh. You can have an amazing adventure being a spiritual person. The greatest purpose of seasons is to make us realise that in Him we live and move and have our being. If you realise this there’s far more to life than just fulfilling your desires. Acts 1:6-7 They asked when the kingdom will be restored and the Lord said: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority.” You won’t know the times but you’ll feel them. Mandela spent 27 years in prison, he learnt something in his seasons. The worst thing for him he said was to sit alone with himself and deal with who he was. Loneliness leads to depression, isolation, self-condemnation and low self-esteem but when you get lonely you can also turn to God, learn about Him, cry out for His help. You can start looking to your life-source for answers instead of yourself. A season of loneliness can be a good thing. You have to have the wisdom about what to do in your life and what choices to make. Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
