LET GO OF YOUR PEANUTS!

LET GO OF YOUR PEANUTS!

JOKE

A new pastor was visiting the homes of his parishioners. At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a business card that had printed “Revelation 3:20” on the back of it for just such an occasion, and stuck it in the door. When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned.

Added to it was this cryptic message, “Genesis 3:10.” Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”   Genesis 3:10 reads, “I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked.”

Intro.

The story is told of an African people who regarded monkey meat as a delicacy especially suited for their festival meals. The monkeys, however, were difficult to capture. They rarely strayed far from the safety of the trees. Whenever the villagers would send in their dogs, the monkeys would scamper into the trees. They were a nimble lot. They would climb too quickly and too high to be knocked down with stones or sticks.

Nevertheless, the villagers found a way to get their hands on the monkeys. The people went down to the riverbank to get some clay. With this clay they fashioned crude bottles that were rounded at the bottom and curved up into long, narrow necks. Once the clay hardened, the villagers filled the bottom of these bottles with peanuts and set them out on the floor of the jungle. Then the villagers went home to bed.

During the night, the monkeys smelled the peanuts, sensed that everything was safe, and came swinging down from the trees to investigate. One by one, the monkeys reached down into bottles and grabbed fistfuls of the peanuts. When the monkey tried to retrieve its prize, however, it found it could not pull its fists out of the bottle. Though it strained with all its might, it could not pull the peanuts from the bottle.

The next morning, the people arose and walked out to the clearing in the jungle, where they found the monkeys still trying to jerk their treasures from the bottles. Casually, the villagers scooped up the monkeys, broke the bottles, and carried the animals home to provide stew meat for their festival.

Ultimately the monkeys lost their freedom because they were not willing to let go. They refused to unclench their fists.

If I want to be released from something, I need to let go!

The title of my message today is

LET GO OF YOUR PEANUTS.

Some observations!

1) Everyone has a story, everyone has a history.

Everyone has a unique story.

2) What has happened is over!

You can rewind as much as you like. It's over.

You can pause as much as you like! It's over.

It's gone!

3) You need to accept it!

You need to get a reality check. Accept it!

4) What you do with it is your choice!

5) Only you can choose whether you let it go or hang on to bitter!

QUOTE!

CS Lewis.

Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point to move forward.

ISIAH43V18-19 HCSB says

““Do not remember the past events; pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”

It says in the TLV

““Do not remember former things, nor consider things of the past. Here I am, doing a new thing; Now it is springing up— do you not know about it? I will surely make a way in the desert, rivers in the wasteland.”

God tells His people through the prophet to forget the past.

Let it go.

WHAT ARE YOUR PEANUTS?

Your "peanuts" are anything that you are holding on to that is causing destruction, dysfunction or chaos in your life!

REMEMBER THE PEANUTS DID NOT KILL THE MONKEYS It was their stubborn refusal to let them go that killed them!

It was the choices they made!

WHAT ARE YOUR PEANUTS?

Your peanuts could be drugs, sex, alcohol or money or whatever!

YOUR DESIRE CAUSES YOU TO GRAB THEM.

It says in James 1v 13-15.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”—for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is dragged away and enticed by his own desire. Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is full grown, it brings forth death.”

YOUR DESIREs drive YOUR CHOICE.

You know exactly what you are dealing with in life!

You may not want to!

You know deep down inside exactly what gets you!

Maybe you were deeply hurt as a child! If so I am sorry!

Maybe you carry a love scar!

You got a broken heart!

Maybe you got rejected!

Perhaps you lost a loved one.

Maybe you got suffered such disappointment you cannot forgive!

You don't trust anyone anymore!

Maybe someone made you feel worthless and you are angry and bitter!

Maybe you carry resentment towards something!

Perhaps jealousy and hatred are inside you.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Your problem is not the peanuts!

It's the things in your heart that drive you to go to the nuts.

WE MUST GET RID OF OUR NEGATIVE RESIDUE OF THE PAST!

It is written in PHIL 3v 13-14 in the TLV “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself as having taken hold of this. But this one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal for the reward of the upward calling of God in Messiah Yeshua.

It says in the Scriptures

“Brothers, I do not count myself to have laid hold of it yet, but only this: forgetting what is behind and reaching out for what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of Elohim in Messiah יהושע.

It says in the NLT

“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

FORGETTING what lies behind.

REACHING out to what is ahead.

WE MUST LET GO.

Unforgiveness.

It says in Matt 6v15 the Scriptures.

““But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither shall your Father forgive your trespasses.

Eph 4v 31 says

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and displeasure, and uproar, and slander be put away from you, along with all evil.

LET IT GO AND LET GOD!

Many of us carry hurt

Shame

Guilt

Rebellion

Pride

Condemnation

Anger

Bitterness

Heartbreak

Rejection

Unforgiveness

Insecurity

Self-loathing

Hatred

Fear

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS THESE THINGS WILL KEEP YOU REACHING FOR THOSE PEANUTS THAT STEAL YOUR FREEDOM AND YOUR LIFE!

It is written in Matt 11v29-30

NLT

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.
