Sunday 12 November - Church message by Lourens Bezuidenhout - LOVE FIRST
Matthew 22:37-39New International Version (NIV)
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’[b]
This word Love, this thing we mistake for a silly emotion & feeling is actually an action and requires effort
1 Corinthians 13:4New International Version (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
This is the definition of Love; Love is an unselfish concern, for the betterment of others.
We are called to Love God and our neighbours with no hidden motives.
Why do we have Christians basing their Love on their own terms?
We say we love each other but we don’t?
You hate yourself!
You don’t know yourself!
You don’t know who God is!
But you call yourself a Christian
My motives in correcting someone is out of Love and for their betterment.
Let’s redefine love – Jesus never came down, stayed in one place and said I love you guys! Everything he did was an action.
If someone has to walk over me, for the betterment of others so be it.
One day we will give an account for everything we do.
What have we done where it cost someone else’s love?
For recognition, praise, acknowledgement, riches, personal belongings or acceptance.
Once I realise what it cost, my heart broke.
I always wanted to be right and everyone else was always wrong.
Now I’d rather be wrong so everyone can be right!
Jesus was our example, the difference was back then the Shepard walked in front
Showing us how to do it, he was our example.
Are you so concerned about being right and being accepted and having material things?
That you don’t love God! Please do a reality check.
1 Thessalonians 3:12New International Version (NIV)
12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:12New International Version (NIV)
12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
If you get corrected for your behaviour, is it done because they don’t love you?
No! Accept the correction and be happy.
Always pursue what is good for one another and for all.
What do we do? Repay evil for evil. We have to change it!
Otherwise we are in serious trouble and big denial.
It is not about us! Do unto others as you want them to do unto you.
We always want to be the superstar of the movie of our lives at the expense of others.
I would rather let Jesus be the superstar.
Do you always want to be right, above loving people?
We are not applying love as an action in our lives.
By all means be right but not at the expense of showing love.
God wants us to have the attitude of LOVE FIRST!
